The constantly evolving technology coupled with the rapidly changing mass media landscape and the need for competency provides an important and needful avenue for training skill-based professionals and build capacity in the practice of journalism. The world has undergone digital migration giving rise to online media. This has seen the proliferation of news and entertainment channels, calling for more professionalism, with the requisite competent skills and training to tackle the various communication issues emerging in Kenya and the world over. This course will go a long way in addressing these gaps in training and practice by exposing students to digital journalism theory and technical skills and also in providing the much-needed academic voice in general media studies, journalism and digital media. The target group for this course are high school leavers who wish to pursue a career in journalism, practicing journalists who may wish to develop or sharpen digital media skills for the 21st century and other professionals who may wish to communicate better online and offline with their stakeholders. The course aligns with the other courses in the School of Education in the collective call for all to emphasize the development and use of digital skills for teaching, learning and general industry practice. This course enables students to synthesize technical skills in digital media and apply them in other areas of communication.
