Profile

Professor Anne Syomwene Kisilu is a Professor of Educational Media and Technology at KCA University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Curriculum Studies, as well as a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree. She has over seventeen years of university teaching and research experience in Curriculum Studies, Pedagogy, Educational Media and Technology. She has extensive experience in university leadership, having served as Dean and Head of Department at Moi University for a cumulative period of more than seven years. She has facilitated and participated in numerous national, regional, and international educational conferences and workshops, and has chaired several institutional policy development committees. She has an outstanding scholarly record, having published more than fifty-five peer reviewed Journal articles and supervised more than sixty-five post graduate thesis in the field of education. She has served as an External Examiner for several universities in Kenya and internationally and is a trained peer reviewer for academic programme development with the Commission for University Education (CUE). She also played a pivotal role in rebranding The Educator Journal at Moi University, leading its transition to an online publication platform. She was the project leader of an international project at Moi university: African-German Centre of Excellence in Educational Research Methodology and Management in East and South Africa (CERM-ESA) that was funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).Through active engagement in national, regional, and international collaborations, she remains committed to advancing research, innovation, and capacity building in curriculum and instruction, educational media and technology, with particular emphasis on Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET). Her work continues to influence educational policy, curriculum reform, and the integration of technology in teaching and learning.

Research Grants

  1. November 2022 to April 2026 – I was the project leader ofAfrican-German Centre of Excellence in Educational Research Methodology and Management in East and South Africa (CERM-ESA) that was established in 2014 and funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Every year, from 2014 to 2026, DAAD funded post graduate tuition and research scholarships to Moi University amounting to more than 10 million.
  2. In October, 2024, I chaired a committee that wrote a proposal to Commonwealth of Learning for funding to develop on line teaching modules and convert the conventional Masters of Education (MEd) Programme into an online Moodle-based programme (Master of Education in Educational Communication & Technology). Grant total paid to Moi University – 15,000 CAD (Approx Ksh 1,400, 000).
  3. In July – August, 2023, I chaired a committee that wrote proposals and were offered a tender by The Lutheran World on provision of consultancy services – Conducting Certificate training on basic Kenya Sign Language and braille at Kakuma and Dadaab Refugee camps. Grand total paid to Moi University – Ksh 1,781,500

  • I have taught at university level for seventeen years. I am competent in the use of innovative teaching methods such as case study method, eLearning and blended learning, ICT integration in education,  flipped classroom, value based education and competency-based education as a whole.   • November 2022 to April 2026– I was the project leader of African-German Centre of Excellence in Educational Research Methodology and Management in East and South Africa (CERM-ESA) that was established in 2014 and funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The project was a collaboration between Moi university, University of Oldenburg – Germany, Nelson Mandela University, University of Dares-salaam – Tanzania and Uganda Management Institute – Uganda
  • 2024 and April, 2026– I was the project leader of Erasmus+ collaborations with Trnava university, Slovakia and Ostfold University, Norway. I took part in Erasmus+ teaching and training programme at both universities.
  • 2021 to 2026-External Examination for international universities – Served as External examiner of post graduate thesis for Northern Caribbean University, Jamaica and UNICAF university.
